Lumberman's Monument
Lumberman's Monument is a beautiful place for a family hike. There are numerous trails that string along the AuSable River. Located off the river there is a steep sand mountain that leads to a small public beach. A brand new staircase was recently put in with 242 steps. At the front entrance of Lumberman's Monument are kid friendly structures to play on. The main entrance also leads to a gift shop, which includes gifts, snacks, drinks and restrooms.

Iargo Springs
Iargo Springs provide a beautiful view of the AuSable River. Site includes large natural springs and is on the banks of the AuSable River. Two of the springs have dams. This attraction includes an observation deck, a stairway to the spring area, and a boardwalk. This location is a trailhead for the Highbanks Hiking Trail.

Tawas Point Lighthouse
In operation since 1876, the lighthouse is the feature of the Tawas Point State Park, situated on a 200 acre peninsula that defines the southeast boundary of Tawas Bay. The 70 foot lighthouse is open for tours six days a week from May through September. Ask about the Lighthouse Keeper Program that allows registered volunteers to stay in the keeper’s cottage for up to two weeks while serving as lighthouse volunteers. Special events include the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival, the Haunted Lighthouse, and Christmas programs.

Shopping on Newman Street
Downtown East Tawas is full of beautiful and locally owned shops and boutiques. Newman Street, is the main shopping attraction. Wide, brick paved sidewalks are lined with trees and benches making shopping an enjoyable experience. Across from Newman Street, is the Tawas Pier. The Tawas Pier is great for fishing, and evening walks accompanied by your Marian's Ice Cream (located across the street from the pier).

Fishing, Boating, and Beaches
National City, MI is home to 7 inland lakes within a 5 mile radius. All lakes are great for fishing and boating. Sand Lake, the biggest of the 7 lakes, has a public beach. Round Lake, has a public camp site, along with a public boat launch. Little island lake also has a public boat launch. The AuSable River also has great fishing and public beaches. Tawas Lake is not located too far from National City, MI, and Tawas, MI has public beach access along Lake Huron. Water access for boats is also available on Lake Huron.
